Preferred Stock

« Back to Glossary Index

A type of financial instrument without a specific maturity date that does not give the investor voting rights, whose interest payment is contingent upon the issuer’s profits. It is a hybrid product between fixed and variable income. It can offer a high return and grants the investor priority over shareholders in the collection of dividends or, in the event of the issuer’s bankruptcy, it has little liquidity and is not covered by the Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF).
